The safety and extractor are marked "GESICHERT" and "GELADEN" respectively. It is numbered in the military fashion with the full serial number (6652) stamped on the major components and the last two digits (52) on the various small parts. The right side of the barrel extension has the early double "Eagle/63" Waffenamt proofs. The chamber area is stamped "1936", and the front toggle is marked "S/42", the wartime code for the Mauser factory. It is estimated that approximately 200 Police Lugers were produced in 1936 all with this "g" serial number suffix, with the sear safety bar on top of the side plate. This fine example is even more rare in that it was one of the early Police issue Mauser Lugers. This was the first year that Germany stopped using the secret letter code markings for the year of manufacture on small arms. This is a very scarce early Pre-WWII German Police Luger manufactured by the Mauser factory.
